Make sure that two new students have budget.xls
---------- open smith.xls
--------- open anynecord.xls
--------- + a worksheet
---------- copy from anyonerecord.xls
-------- paste into the new worksheet
-------- name the new worksheet budget.xls
--------- let's use Auto-sum to make sure that the January column has a formula for Totals
-------- let's use the handle at the bottom of January in the Totals to copy over the Totals formula, so that each month has its own total with the right formula
pie chart
wizard - program that asks you questions in order to produce an "object" such as a picture, table, or spreadsheet
What is a default chart? What is a default? e.g., Default day for daylinght savins time; default chart, default printer.
no wizard
Add 10 lines of space underneath your top budget table.
Highlight Row 10 to select which item to put in your pie chart.
Possible error: not highlighting the desired area before pasting.
Insert pie chart. Pick your favorite graphic!
oops! Make sure you only highlght the months in Row 10 so that you have exactly 12 pieces in your pie.
oops! If you grab (highlight) column A, you'll gert Grand Total as the default name of your chart.
oops! Did Microsoft forget that the LEGEND or KEY needs to have 12 colors--one for each month. There are only 9 or 10, depending on the chart we generated.
Solution 1 from JY: Use Layout 2 to get a full LEGEND across the top, along with %'s. Layout 2 appears on the Upper Left after you generate the chart.
style: apply new colors in text and background: Red and Black for $
